But how much of it is real, usable Japanese, and how much would get you a very strange look in real life? I’m a Japanese teacher, and in this guide we’ll break down the most iconic Jujutsu Kaisen quotes in Japanese with accurate originals, rōmaji and English, the grammar behind each one, and an honest verdict on whether you can actually use it.

Teacher’s note: Yuji’s grandfather’s dying words drive the whole series — and they hide a small grammar masterclass. 強いから (tsuyoi kara) uses から (kara), “because,” one of the first connectors every learner needs: 忙しいから (“because I’m busy”). 人を助ける (hito o tasukeru), “to help people,” is warm, everyday Japanese — just soften the rough command 助けろ to 助けて (tasukete) or 助けましょう. As for 死ね (shine) — that’s the command form of 死ぬ (shinu), “to die,” and on its own it’s one of the ugliest things you can say to someone. Here it’s a tender wish: “die having been surrounded by people who loved you.” A perfect example of how context, not just words, carries meaning in Japanese.

Teacher’s note: Sukuna’s contempt is built into the grammar. 知るか (shiru ka) is a rhetorical “as if I’d know” — the か here is dismissive, not a real question — and バカ (baka), “idiot,” makes it an insult. Never aim this at a real person. But underneath is a genuinely useful phrase: 自分で考える (jibun de kangaeru), “to think for yourself.” Drop the rough command 考えろ for 自分で考えてみて (jibun de kangaete mite), “try thinking about it yourself,” and you have something a teacher might gently say to you.

Teacher’s note: Megumi’s 不平等 (fubyōdō), “unequal / inequitable,” is the opposite of 平等 (byōdō), “equal” — grown-up vocabulary worth keeping. Gojo’s signature line is secretly the most usable phrase in this whole article: 大丈夫 (daijōbu), “it’s okay / don’t worry / are you all right?”, is one of the most versatile words in Japanese. And 最強 (saikyō) stacks 最 (sai-), “most,” onto 強い (tsuyoi), “strong” — the same 最 in 最高 (saikō), “the best.” Declaring yourself the strongest is pure Gojo swagger, but the building blocks are 100% real. Jujutsu Kaisen Japanese vs. real Japanese
Jujutsu Kaisen‘s dialogue is modern, cool, and often deliberately blunt — rough 俺 (ore), dismissive particles, and command forms are how it signals characters who are tough, tired, or terrifying. That’s brilliant for building your ear and your slang recognition. But blunt-cool on screen is often just rude in a real classroom or a first meeting.
