How online group Japanese lessons for kids work
A real school day,
in a metaverse campus.
A campus you “go to,” not a class you log into
At TOMODACHI JAPAN, learning Japanese feels less like “taking a lesson” and more like “living at a school.” The campus is in a metaverse — an online virtual school. Your child goes there with their own avatar: joining class, chatting with friends in the hallway, hanging out after school. From anywhere in the world, they can attend a “school in Japan.”
- The campus runs on oVice, the same metaverse platform used by NIJIN Academy (800+ students)
- Camera-off / avatar participation is totally fine — perfect for shy kids
- A computer or tablet with an internet connection is all you need — no special equipment
Classes & lessons
Small classes of 8
Up to 8 students per class. A homeroom teacher watches over each child and walks with them at their own pace.
A weekly class meeting
Once a week, the whole class gathers. Today’s news, today’s worries — we talk about it all, in Japanese.
~100 lessons a month
Around 100 live Japanese lessons each month. Two-way and real-time — choose the ones that fit your child’s level and interests.
Class times that fit
Weekday daytime, weekday evening (after international school), or weekends. Wherever you live, there’s a slot that works.
Lessons are taught by teachers who passed a roughly 2% selective hiring process, trained through NIJIN’s own teacher communities — “Jugyou Terasu” and “Chugakkou Terasu,” which together have trained 1,200+ educators across Japan.
Every day with Japanese kids
The biggest difference here is the daily dialogue with Japanese children from NIJIN Academy. They aren’t “study partners” — they’re friends. Morning circle, lunch together, after-school hangouts: little by little, Japanese stops being a “subject to study” and becomes the language your child actually lives and plays in.
After school: clubs, circles & projects
When lessons end, the campus is still a place to belong. With friends who love the same things, the words just pour out — so the conversations in a club become the best textbook of all.
Manga & Anime Club
Talk about your favorite manga and anime in Japanese. Acting out the lines is more than welcome!
Japanese Culture Club
Origami, go, shogi and more. Play your way into Japanese culture — and the language.
Calligraphy Club
Japanese, written with a brush. Write your own name in kanji — how cool is that?
Gaming Club
Play together and the words follow naturally. Strategy meetings happen in Japanese too.
Cooking Club
Read the recipe, cook it, narrate it — every step is Japanese practice.
Singing & Karaoke Club
Japanese songs are the best textbook. Pronunciation and rhythm, learned the fun way.
Clubs & circles are an optional add-on (3,300 JPY/month). Student-run circles that kids start themselves are included in the base plan. On weekends, there are online field trips and seasonal events (festivals, Halloween, New Year), and through project-based learning, kids launch their own ideas — a video, a manga, a research project — in Japanese.
